Philosophy of teaching
Since I started teaching and throughout my experiences, I have thought of what kind of teaching I want to become. My previous experiences, as well as my field experience and my conducting training have helped me shape this philosophy.
For me, It is very important to be passionate about what I do. I think that without a passion, a teacher can not be a good one. You have to loke the subject you are teaching, working it a school and working with young people. Music has been a passion since I am a small child and has continued to be one over the years. I like to be involved in as many different musical projects as possible, to broaden my knowledge, but also because it makes me feel fulfilled as a person. I want to communicate and share this passion with as many young and older people as I can.
Also, I strongly believe that everybody learns something everyday, even teachers. I love to have discussions and I know that my students can teach me something while I am teaching them something else. My classroom will be a very respected room where idea can be discussed in a respectfull way. I think that respect is important on both ways: students respect me, but I also respect their ideas and beliefs.
I see being a teacher as being a guide. When you go on a touristic tour, the guide has knowledge of his subject and shares it with others. While teaching, I want to open my students' eyes on music, but also about how it is connected to other subjects. I want them to develop their curiosity in the subject so they become well cultured future citizens.
Finally, I want to be someone special in their lives. I want, when they come back after graduating, to come see me and tell me that I made a difference for them. I want to be remembered for being a caring, respecting teacher who pushed them to the best they could do. I want them to say that they learned and that they will never forget what I have taught them.
